Haryana set to become the first state in the country to complete aquifer mapping for it’s groundwater resources by May this year > aquifer underground layer of water-bearing rock from which groundwater can be extracted > it’s mapping is important to assess the groundwater situation and taking measures to replenish declining groundwater due to over-exploitation and taking measures for it’s long term sustainable use > Central Ground Water Board (CGWB) is the main nodal agency for it and set it’s target to complete this mapping for whole country by 2022, in first phase i.e. till 2017 it will be done for 8 states where groundwater has reached a critical level

CGPDTM issues revised patent guidelines for Computer Related Inventions

Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trademarks (CGPDT) order excluding software patents for computer related inventions (CRIs) > mere computer software not in conjunction with hardware will not be granted patent in India according to sub-section 3(k) of Patents Act, 1970 which says that mathematical methods or business methods or computer programme or algorithms are not patentable > implication – start-ups, developers etc. will continue to have freedom to inoovate without infringement notices > office of CGPDTM works under aegis of Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry which is the nodal agency for supervising working of IPR laws in India

Union Government launches Swachh Paryatan mobile app

Union Minister of State (MoS) for Tourism, Culture and Civil Aviation Mahesh Sharma has launched ‘Swachh Parayatan’ mobile application to keep tourist places clean > project is being implemented by Union Ministry of Tourism through Delhi eGovernance Society (DeGS) and National Informatics Centre (NIC) > initially available for only 25 Adarsh Smarak Monuments protected by Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and will be monitored by project monitoring unit of Swachh Bharat Mission in the Union Ministry of Tourism > citizens, tourists etc. can take photograph of garbage aound the monuments areas and can upload it on app with remarks which will then be sent to ASI nodal officer responsible for that area who will then take necessary action for it’s redressal

Bihar becomes sixth state to join UDAY Scheme

Bihar has become the 6th state after Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat to join UDAY (Ujwal Discom Assurance Yojana) for financial restructuring of debt of power distribution companies and for that a tripartite MoU has been signed between Bihar government, state DISCOMs and Union Power ministry > Bihar government will take over 75% or 2,332 crore rupees of the state DISCOM’s total debt of 3,110 crore rupees and remaining 778 crore rupees will be issued as DISCOM bonds at coupon rates > it will help in enhancing the process of electrification of 1152 villages with 160.6 lakh households
