Capture

A brief overview of Various Acts of India like Regulating Act 1773, Pitt’s India Act 1784, Charter Acts 1833 and 1853

These various acts have their own importance which have been enacted over time and gave a new structure to Indian polity. Every act helped India to move forward a step and bring some new changes i.e. making British government to consider the plight of Indians and take step to make justice, law and order for the benefit of all and not just to benefit foreigners who were residing in India that time.

Another point is that sometimes i.e. in initial acts they make changes to improve administration, like a to give a brief idea i am listing out various things that have been included in Government of India Act, 1858

• Act for good government of India
• All powers of EIC i.e. territories, govt., revenues etc. are transferred to British crown
• GGI became Viceroy
• Viceroy: Direct representative of British Crown
• 1st: Lord Canning
• Double govt. system abolished i.e. BoC and CoD
• New office of SoS with complete control over Indian Admin
• 15 member council to assist SoS
• Largely related to improvement of admin in India
